Cinematography
Strong Performances
A bit slow
No kung-fu action
No period barefisted boxing
The production quality as seen in the previews carried through the entire movie. The location used for most of the exterior shooting was really gorgeous, it made me want to go on the internet and book a boat trip to China… a slow boat trip of course…
Bad puns aside, the visuals were great, and some of the costume work really stood out as well. Everyone gave solid acting performances and nobodies accent made me stuff marshmellows in my ears.
While this movie definitely had you on edge, just waiting for one of the main characters to contract Cholera, it was a slow paced movie. There were climatic scenes, even action oriented scenes like the scene of nationalists that chased Naomi Watts character in the village, and the scene where the disease ridden villagers arrived at the main village - but all of these scenes seemed flat. Not that they were poorly done, they just didn’t unfold in any really powerful manner.
If your girls giving you a hard time about all the Giant Robot movies you make her watch - toss this one in your movie queue and make a fuss about watching it, just don’t tell her you read my review here
.
If you go for these kind of period dramas then this movie would be a definite 5 on my scale instead of a 4.
Sometime later the two find themselves having grown apart, pretty much disgusted with each other. Kitty cheats on Walter, and Walter basically blows a gasket. As an infectious disease expert, Walter accepts a position in China to treat a very bad Cholera outbreak. As punishment for his wifes infidelity, he forces her to join him across the globe.
As the disgruntled couple find themselves halfway around the world, in a disease infested community, they struggle to repair their relationship and help stem the epidemic.
