good story
indy budget film
I rented Fakers online, after I had a problem with my movie list and didn’t receive any movies for over a week… I was frustrated went online and added like 40 movies to my queu, Fakers was one of them. All I know is that it was an indy euro movie about an art heist or somehting…
When I popped Fakers into my player, I was immediately hit with low quality studio animations and bad trailers - I thought uh oh!. The beginning of Fakers takes place in Italy something like 100 years ago, the production value, sets, lighting etc, was ALMOST low budget to the point of really getting worried I had rented a stinker.
Luckily, while Fakers is definitely an independent film, the quality winds up being pretty descent. I was certainly drawn into the story enough so technical apsects didn’t become much of a concern.
The plot progresses a little slow at first, and while it never reaches a climax similar to the Thomas Crown Affair (to which I compare these movies in flavor), once the art forging comes into play, the movie gets pretty exciting.
There are a couple of story writing elements I really enjoyed in the script, and I found the whole climax regarding the art entertaining and fresh.
Nick Edwards is into a british loan shark for a bunch of money. At the same time hes sweet on this waitress chick. Trying to get close to this bird, he buys her brother - an aspiring artist - an antique artsits box. The box contains an original sketch from a semi-famous Italian artist long deceased.
The original sketch is worth just enough to pay off Nicks debt, IF he can happen to sell it 4 or 5 times over… So he recruits the talent of his artist friend Tony to make a handful of forgeries and then sell them off as originals to perspective buyers.
