Saw this preview in the movies, and thought this would be along the lines of Hostel (which I still haven’t seen) and other recent slasher flicks. Had no real interest in seeing it. Was one of the only movies on the rack in the store so I figured I’d take a look.
Turistas was a surprising watch. Better than I would have thought although the movie is a little bland. There is very little development on the bad characters in this film, and there are no particularly good performances from any of the actors.
However, the script moved along sequentially, and for the most part in a realistic fashion. Also, most refreshing was the lack of Hollywood horror movie cliches and typical slasher fest sequences… ie: the girl hiding in the closet as the killer moves about the room with his chainsaw and ax in hand.
Amoung the Wrong Turns, Hills Hae Eyes, and Texas Chainsaw Massacres this movie stands out of the crowd.
If you’re not going out of country on holiday any time soon, and are a horror movie fan - grab a drink or two, and a girlfriend and check out Turistas.

A group of young tourists are on a bus in Brazil when it crashes off a cliffside leaving them stranded at a little beach inlet. The group gets toasted at a bar, and winds up being drugged. They wake up with all their possessions stolen.
Eventually, they make their way with the help of a local to a hidden jungle house where they can wait 2 days while another bus surfaces in town. Unfortunately for the group, the house is home to a mad doctor and his goons who plan on stripping the young folk of vital organs to sell on the black market.
