Couple of cool soundtracks
Cool character design

French
No Dialogue
Strange
Disturbing art

This movie has been out for a few years… I just now got around to seeing it. I originally thought it would be some weird french animated film, but since I heard a few good things about it, I decided to give it a go.
I was right… weird French flick.
Right off the bat, I realized… hmmm no ones really speaking in this movie. They sort of do it Charlie Brown Mwwwa Mwwwa Mwwwa style. And for those of you who care, the Mwwwaaa Mwwaaa’s are in french.
But somehow it’s really interesting and works.
The art is… well… very artsy - don’t expect your run of the mill animation type stuff - this is more abstract. And the animation itself is very organic and not typical. I did find some of the characterizations a bit odd, almost to a disturbing level, like the bikers hugely proportioned nose and legs. Come to think of it the old Jazz ladies living on nothing but frogs was pretty disturbing too… Did I mention this is a French film.
Overall the character design was pretty good, I especially liked the no-necked French mafia guys. Cooool.
The sound in the film is also done really well, there are a couple of musical numbers that are really fun to watch and listen to - in fact they will be the reason I pop this in the DVD player again.
My biggest problem with the movie was the ending. Not to give too much away, but there is a chase scene that well just wasn’t very realistic.
If you’re in the mood for something different one night, Trips will deliver.
OK bear with me here…
This story is about a little boy who lives with his grandmother and dog. The grandmother gets the boy a bike and he grows up to be a top racer - like Tour De France racer.
While partaking in a race, the French mafia kidnap him, as well as two other bikers.
The mafia guys force the bikers to pedal on cycles like you’d find in a modern day “Spin Class”… the purpose, to power a game similar to that Yoodler game on the price is right years ago (see the movie you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about).
So as the Mafia guys are raking in the money off of this racing game they’ve created, the boys grandmother and dog set out to save him. Along the way they get the help of three old Jazz ladies who well… have a rhythm all their own.
