Bruce Willis as an aged somewhat burnt out cop and robots. If thats not the makings of a good Sci-Fi flick, I don’t know what is…
These story points parallel the main character and a comic mini-series I wrote back in the Q-Comics days.
Anyway, I found the concept of the story to this movie very appealing. In my view, people are “living” less and “plugging in” more. Perhaps inevitably getting to the Matrix point of simply being batteries in the great machine.
Back on track, I was pretty excited to see what they would come up with on this one…

And then I remembered we’re talking about hollywood.
The movie is an o.k. watch… Theres nothing particularly noteworthy, and nothing particularly bad about it either.
My biggest problem with the flick was the reliance it put on the visuals of the robotic surrogates. The nonchalant manner in which they were damaged/destroyed, and shut off… It was almost like watching a bad artsy anti Tobacco commercial - you’ll get it when you see it.
Frankly, I found the robot death scenes a bit disturbing.
It would have been much more interesting if they had explored the social aspects of the robotic society with more realism and forethought…
Kudos to see Zefram Cochrane (James Cromwell for you non-trek folk - I think there are one or two of you out there) working again!
