Realistic Violence

Slow
Frustrating characters

I didn’t have much of a heads up on Harsh Times. I rented it mainly because I had recently rented another “Blockbuster Exclusive”, a movie called “Unkown” which was pretty good. This flick was also a “Blockbuster exclusive”. I’m on the fence with Christian Bale, so it wasn’t a selling point for me renting this movie.
Harsh times was ok. It was kind of slow, but his military flashbacks and gang dealings throughout the film kept it just live enough to keep going.
Bales performace was good, but the characters themselves were kind of ehhhhh.
I found some of the character behavior in the context of the movie, a bit frustrating and unrealistic.
Christian Bale returns from Iraq and tries to get employment in LA law enforcement. He leaves each morning with his long time pal, as they each set off to find work.
A bad influence Bale consitently convinces his friend to drink, get high, and overall not be a responsible individual.
The duos antics spiral further and further out of control as they pursue the sale of stolen handgun.
The movie climaxes with a major drug deal.
