Races of Sulaco
GROMEN ETTICS
BACKGROUND:
Concentrated in the ruins of Grome, and sparsely populating the rest of Sulaco, are a group of humans known as Gromen Ettics. The Ettics are not a seperate race, in truth they are simply human. However, they are direct descendants of an ancient human civilization - the human civilization that inhabited the great city of Grome during its prime.
This civilization was very unique... Tremendously rich in culture, art, politics, knowledge and craft. It is this rich culture, and the secretes it contains that make the Gromen Ettics stand out as a people (and get noted here in the new races section).
Today although small in comparison to its former self, the Gromen Ettic culture is strong. Tradition and duty are paramount amoung Gromen Ettics, and this is reflected in a couple of unique traits most humans do not possess.
PHYSICAL TRAITS:
Human Ettics are normal humans in all physical aspects.
ABILITY MODIFIERS:
All Gromen Ettics go through mandatory schooling at least until their 18th birthday, often this schooling progresses further. This is reflected in a pc by the following modifiers.
Int: +1 / Wis: +1
SPECIAL ABILITIES:
Extended Schooling - Bonus initial proficiences
When a Groman Ettic human character is created, they may double their int proficiency bonus. As Groman Ettics commonly study a subject or craft to great degree a player should be urged to put many slots towards a single skill in order to gain immediate bonuses when using that skill. Gromen Ettic PCÕs with skills of +10 are not uncommon.
Learning focus -Bonus additional proficiences
Groman Ettics learn new proficiencies at double the normal rate (as seen on p.51 handbook).
Social Structure -
The Towermen of Grome oversee Gromen society with an all encompassing eye and firm hand. While citizens are not (normally) forced into an occupation, once one is chosen, a Gromen Ettic must comply and join a specific group associated with that profession as decreed by the Towermen. Since Gromen society is small, there are only a handful of possible choices for the rarer classes such as Paladin, Ranger etc...
Those who do not join their appointed groups, are ostracized socially. Typically, the Towermen will pursue the individual through advisement, and counceling in attempts to reintegrate them into the social structure. Depending on the severity of the case - who the individual is and what role they fill - this administration can go on for a number of years. If at any time the Towermen deem the individual a lost cause, he is immediately banished from Grome.
This tight social structure has a number of role playing advantages. Gromen Ettic pcs are given their starting supplies and can interact with the backgrounds of their associated groups listed below throughout their adventuring career. The individual class groups below detail additional benefits (and hinderances). DmÕs are urged to create additional Gromen groups.
Below is just a previw of the available groups - full details to come
Fighters - Tower Guards:
Most Gromen Ettics that pursue the lifestyle of a warrior, take the path as a guard of the city. The bulk of these guards are known as Tower Guards. While most Tower Guards live and train in chambers outside of the Grome Tower, there is always a Guard presence within the tower keeping watch over the city and immediate area.
Wizards - Tower Wizards:
Virtually all new wizards of Grome come out of and are affiliated with the group known as Tower Wizards. These wizards spend most of their time in scholarly pursuits within the lower levels of the Grome Tower.
Thieves - The Collectors:
Grome is home to no common thief or thieves guild of any kind. The social order and structure of Grome eliminates nearly all crime, and those who would pursue its fruits find swift imprisonment. Those that show adeptness for thievery and its closely associated skillsets - before being caught for a criminal act - are trained by an elite few known as the collectors.
The Collectors train for the recovery of ancient Gromen items, which over the years, have occassionaly resurfaced. Even less often, a Collector is sent out to retrieve some item the Towermen have deemed its possession necessary for the good of Grome.
Rangers - Rangers of the Black Hawk:
Paladins - Paladins of the Stone Cross:
Priests - Cathedral Priests:
