UPDATE: 06/08/08
The FOURTH EDITION of Dungeons and Dragons has been officially released by wizards.
I bought the books and have been reading through them.
My initial take is that the books are laid out very methodically, giving a really strightforward breakdown of the rules. The mechanics of the game seem to stem from a more simplified, streamlined strcture.
Although overall, it DOES NOT look like any new creative aspects were added to the game - it seems to be a build off of the last edition which focused on mechanics and rules.
This is disappointing to me because yet again the key player in RPGs has not expanded to new heights to deliver something equivalent of the first groundbreaking release of D&D.
At the same time I'm quite happy Wizards has blundered again, because this means my own RPG system now about 8 years in the works will still bring unique aspects to the gaming table.
OK folks heres the zinger, since I'm reading through the 4th edition material, and I'm still getting complaints from my players about playing second eition (which is about 15yrs old at this time), I have decided to get with the times and run a 4th edition adventure.
I'll give it a shot and see how it works.
Of course, I'm already working on my own version of the 4th Edition character sheet (who makes these things?), and I may add a couple of house mechanics and rules - I mean what self respecting DM doesn't?
THAT'S RIGHT Dungeons and Dragons!
If curiousity or chance brought you to this page and you aren't familiar with the game, be forewarned, this area delves deep into the realm of fantasy geekdom - runaway now...
If you're a player not involved in our group, and interested in seeing some campaign material (maps, storylines, characters, weapons, monsters and gaming sheets), feel free to stay as long as you'd like. I'm more than happy to get some feedback on the site, and try to respond to all emails in a timely manner...
If you're an industry professional coming to this section for additional samples of my work, again please stay as long as you'd like - I apologize in advance for the presentation of this material. Time and lack thereof dictates how organzied and coherrent this section of the site can be.
If you're one of the players from our group, please don't read any material that is flagged "Spolier", as this material directly involves the current campaign, and you will almost certainly see something coming up in the next adventure and you guys cheat too much as it is!
SO WHAT'S BEING POSTED HERE?
I'll be posting materials from my current campaign.
Feel free to download, adapt, and use the material in your own campaigns.
However, please don't submit the ideas to any commercial entity, or use them in any similar fashion - These materials will be used in conjunction with the new RPG system I am developing and planning to release in the near future.
Beside campaign materials, I'll also post up some personal writings, some writings about game mastering, and anayltical breakdowns of some of the RPG processes - take from them what you will...
If anyone has any requests as to campaign material or aspects they want to see me blab about, please let me know.
ONE MORE IMPORTANT NOTE;
Most of the material posted here will be structured for Dungeons and Dragons Second Edition. Yes, I said Second edition. Sorry, boys and girls I am very dissapointed with WOTC 3rd edition and don't play it. Don't get me started as to why.
Of course I'm sure you can adapt anything you like to a third edition campaign with just a little work. I'm not taking the time to convert my campaigns from second to third - With my own RPG system in the works, all of my campaigns will go from second edition format to this new format when its ready.
